Noel Mortier shared the following analysis...

I was curious how much weight paint adds .
I've been playing I made a spreadsheet of weight increase when applying finishes.
I used a 12.9sq in piece of foam. I weighed  it bare and after each coat of brushed minwax poly . then after each of 2 coats of spray rustolem 2x paint.

I then calculated the increase for each step in grams and grams per sq in.
Some of the measurements were also mage in grains . there are 7000 grains to a pound.

The weight of each step and total for the planes as well as the % increase for a night timber and a t28.
I used 3x wing area as a rough approximation of total plane area.
It  looks like 2 coats of minwax and 2 cods of 2x increase weight of night timber 4.5% or 74.8 grains
T28 3.48% or 54.75 grains.
I reweighed it after the second coat of paint fully dried like all the other steps. It looses weight as the solvents evaporate.

Thought you might find it interesting.
