Indianapolis R/C South would like to invite you to our 1st Annual Electric Fly-In to be held on Saturday, May 22nd.

The event will run from Noon to 4pm.
There will be a $5 landing fee, per pilot.
Current AMA is required to fly at our field.
We will have snacks & drinks available.

This will be a Ticket Fly. When you register, you will receive 5 tickets.  Thereafter, each time you fly you will receive an additional ticket.  You will be able to select which pilot prizes you want to put your tickets towards.  

We will also have a separate raffle for a 6-channel 2.4GHz computer radio that anyone can buy tickets for.  

ONLY Electric-Powered aircraft will be allowed to fly during this event!

Directions:  Our field is located on the South side of Indianapolis, near I-65 exit 99 (Greenwood).  When you get off the Interstate, continue East to the first 4-way stop (200E) and turn South.  Head South until the road T’s into 750N.  Turn Left on 750N and proceed East less than a mile, (look for the red gate on the left).  Follow the gravel road up to the top of the hill.

Thanks for inviting me to the fly in today. It was a blast and I've never felt more comfortable around a group of people as I do being a member of this club. I learned some things and had a lot of fun at the field and with the group.

It was a lot of fun. I really hated to see your jet crash. That was an awesome jet. Nice setup right from the box. So impressive I think I caught a fever from it. I want one now.

We had 17 people register - including 6 non-club members.

The pilot with the most number of flights was Bill Rugenstein, with 18 flights during the 3 hours.
Brian Merrell was 2nd with 11 flights and Ted Brindle 3rd with 10 flights.

Well, I think I figured out what happened to my Parkzone HABU.

At first I thought it was a lockout - lost connection with the receiver - but now I'm convinced that it was a servo problem.

When I hooked everything back up, I noticed that the starboard aileron servo did not center.
Not sure why, but its new center position is about 30 degrees down from where it should be.
(You can see this in the attached photo - note the Tx stick position versus aileron location)

When the servo changed its center location, this would have produced the uncommanded barrel roll to the left.
If I hadn't been so low and fast, I might have had time to compensate with nearly full right stick.

This does explain why I was able to reduce throttle, but I doubt the fan had spooled down before the impact.
I am relieved that it wasn't a lock out and just a servo failure, but still hate that it went in...

I'll be calling Horizon tomorrow to have a chat with them to see what they can do for me.

I have to second what has been said about the event, lots of fun and great to meet and visit will all. To bad about the crashes but I guess this is just part of the hobby.

Also if anyone has ideas on how to improve this event or things that should be added (or removed) it would be great to have the input.

Want to thank you for putting on a very neat event, it was well worth the drive down from up north. I picked up some very worthwile info and  had a great time along with my grandson. I just wish we would have brought more planes.

Well, I'm very happy to report that Horizon/Parkzone analyzed what was left of my Habu and they sent me a replacement!

Habu #2 flys just as well as the first one, and so far I've had no issues with the servos.
