Conditions were not the best for the Fun Fly - gusty and variable.
There were a total of six contestants who braved the conditions, two of which had never flown a fun fly at our field before - Ben Batts & Don Curry.
Ben Batts was one of the Aerobatic performers at our recent ADA airshow. He and Seth Arnold put on some impressive demonstrations. He flew a LARGE new aerobatic plane in the Fun Fly.
Don Curry has only been flying for a couple of weeks, but decided to give it a try with his Goldberg Eagle trainer.
Everyone made it through the first round without incident, but the scores were lower than normal, due to the wind. However, the carnage started on the 2nd round.
Ben Batts removed the gear from his big aerobat on the stick break. Doug Gifford did the same on his bomb drop - we made him replace his divot. John Dunn lost his gear on the stick break, and Al Tucker bent a nose gear on the spot landing. Don Curry, the new guy, cartwheeled and damaged his elevator. The only plane undamaged was mine, which was fortunate, because it was a Rent-A-Bug (Bill Rugenstein's 150% Bug).
Total scores were as follows:
Chuck Baker - 140 points
Doug Gifford - 120 points
Al Tucker - 110 points
Ben Batts - 10 points
John Dunn - 5 points
Don Curry - 0 points
I will be at the Hooligan Air Force reunion in Bowling Green and will miss the Citywide this year.

Good Luck at the Citywide!!!
