Fred has been a member of the club for three years now, and is still relatively new to the "flying" aspect of our sport. Building model airplanes has been a long time hobby of Fred's, and now getting them off the ground and back down in one piece is his new challenge. He has a long list of scale planes he wants to build, from a scale PBY-5A, to a Curtiss Jenny similar to the one his great grandfather flew in WWI. He is still looking for the correct version as his great grandfather said on a trip to Wright Patt, (when the Curtiss Jenny they have on display was still down on the floor and you could view the cockpit), "Our planes didn't have all this stuff! There was just a stick, oil pressure gauge, and a gas gauge".

Fred currently works for a large computer manufacturer, and is married, with two daughters.

Before moving to Indianapolis, Barb worked for Triad-Utrad in Huntington, IN for 19 years in a variety of positions.  She moved to Indy when husband Larry's job with International Harvester brought them here.  Hobby R/C was purchased in 1986 and has been her job ever since.

Hobbies include flying RC and crocheting, sewing, needlecraft and some plastic model building. (Just a tomboy at heart.)

Jim worked as an electronic tech for about 35 years, the last 30 years in engineering. He retired in 2000. He has two daughters. His wife of 45 years passed away in April 2007.

He flew control line in the early 1950’s and built his first R/C airplane in 1957. All it needed was covering, but he was drafted into the service, so he gave the airplane to a friend who covered and flew it.  He finally got to fly his first R/C plane at the Indy R/C South field in 1979.

He served as club Treasurer from 1985 to 1988, before moving to South Carolina for two years, returning to Indianapolis in 1990.  In the 90’s he served as Treasurer for six months and President for one year.  He served again as Treasurer in 2002.
