Great Planes Model Manufacturing is hosting “E-Fest” -- an indoor electric-flying festival where participating pilots stretch their skills to the limit...and spectators shake off the winter doldrums by watching edge-of-your-seat indoor aerobatics.

E-Fest will be held at the University of Illinois Armory Track & Field Facility in Champaign, Illinois on February 12 & 13, 2011. With its 100-foot ceiling and vast open space, the Armory offers an ideal stage for hot R/C flying during cold winter days.

Both days of E-Fest allow several hours for open flying. Other times are reserved for slow & micro flyers, jets, helis, 3-D, combat, and sponsored demos. Saturday's fun concludes with “Black-Out Nite Flying”...when the Armory fills with music and flying LEDs.

Don't miss this winter's Big Event in R/C flying. For complete information about E-Fest -- admission and registration details, schedules, lodging, maps and more -- visit the festival web site at www.gpe-fest.com

Did anyone else notice that we can't park across the street from the Armory this year?

What a pain...  not sure I'm going now.

Dang, I wish I would have read this sooner. Chuck I'm not sure why that was posted like it was, because the lot WAS open across the street! It just is a little smaller than it was. They have some construction going on, But parking was alaviable? I sure missed you guys. Today was especially slow! You guys could have flown almost all morning and wouldn't had to left the pilots stations.   Jim

Hi Jim,
Missed seeing your smiling face at the head of the pilot station queue!  Smiley
Frank Noll responded to my parking query on RCGroups, but only after I had cancelled my hotel reservations and told my boss I would work on Friday.
Bill was down in Florida.  I think he got tired of the snow & ice...  Smiley
Sounds like we missed out on some good flying this year.
So, how was the turnout overall?

This year was a little slower, not so much on Saturday! not sure about overall numbers, but I think someone said the pilot number was 280 something??? Overall a great weekend. Sunday by 10:30 we had stations open the rest of the afternoon. I was telling pilots to bring extra packs with them and if no one was waiting to fly, Just keep Flying. which most did.   Take care. and if you see or talk to Bill or Gene, Tell them Hi for me please.   Jim

If anyone saw me with twin digital cameras at Saturday's E-Fest, I was taking 3D pictures and video. Here are samples (red/cyan glasses required): http://www.flickr.com/photos/21054172@N05/5443353602/  and  http://www.flickr.com/photos/21054172@N05/5443353700/in/photostream/
and a video:

Hi Jim,

Sounds like we missed a good time.  Big difference from last year when the waiting line to fly stretched back into the crowd most of the day on Saturday.

I will say hi to Bill and Gene for you.  Should see Bill on Sunday at our local indoor.  Haven't seen or heard from Gene in quite some time.

Let me know if you're going to be in Indy and we'll do some flying!  Smiley

Take care!
