I have experimented with making custom decals for my planes and it adds something a little different to your finished project.  I used my simple ink jet printer.  (Note: They make a different paper for Laser printers).  I grabbed images off the internet sites and I also used my Word program to create numbers and  "Pilot: Bob Ruder", for under the cockpits of my planes.  You can choose your style/font, of type, and I used a script for my name. The ideas are yours to choose or create.

Another example is the "AeroShell" name and "winged logo". I simply went to the Shell website, found the logo, and saved the image to my computer.  Then I went to work resizing etc.  Below is an image I have put as nose art on my rebuilt LT-40.

Here are the web sites for the decal papers.  I used the "sample" purchase of 10 sheet of clear and 10 of white. (White will be needed for decals applied to any other surface than white, as the color under the decal will show through when using clear papers).  This all sounds more difficult than it really is Wink

Please go to these sites and they have a "directions section" to help explain better.

     Main Webpage:  http://www.beldecal.com
     INK JET PAPER:  http://www.beldecal.com/inkjet_decals.cfm
     LASER PAPER:    http://www.beldecal.com/laser_paper.html

HINTS:

   1. Use your computer program, Word, etc, to arrange your images to save on wasted decal paper.

   2. You can arrange these so you can print on a 1/2 sheet of paper, (cut to 5 1/2" lengthwise), to further save decal paper.

   3. Make Tests!!.... For sealing, slide-off/release times, "largest size" that you can handle applying, etc.

   4. Once the image is sealed, avoid bending as to not crack the seal, as water will get in an ruin the ink under sealer.

   5. My decals were applied on gassers.  Nitro may take Lusterkote clear on TOP of the Krylon Clear. (paper manufacturer's choice, which does work well).  I have applied Lusterkote over the "well cured" Krylon, and it seems to be fine..... but PLEASE do you own tests before applying to your project. You can also use a fine tipped artists brush and go around the edges with Lusterkote. (Spray your brush - dipping supply into the paint cap)

Good Luck, ... lownslo...

P.S. - Example below of the Soaring Society..... This would be printed on white decal paper, and then use a #11 blade and cut out the "circle".
