Note from Steve...
------------------

Hey 2008 Dawn Patrolers,

We are off and running for the 2008 event. We have the first registrant for HDP 2008. It is Dale Locander from Rogers, Arkansas. Congratulations Dale!!!!!!

Registration is open if you want to get on the list. I'll get a registration page posted soon. But just a note . Unfortunately I'm going to have to limit participants to the first 99 who register!

I've been taking it easy the past few weeks, but am back working on the web site and will have photos posted in a few days. I have photos from the HDP, Indiana Warbird Campaign and The Dayton Rendezous. I have Rhonda Shelton and Mike Bealmear to thank for a lot of the pictures, they have given me permission to post some of their great photography on the HDP web  site. I also have some video action from the HDP as well.

I'm cleaning my shop and getting ready to get serious about building. I have a lot of work to do for next year.

see ya later

Hey Dawnites (?)

I finally have my 2007 HDP pictures posted on the web site. I still have many pictures form Rhonda Shelton to get organized and post, plus my videos and Rhonda took a lot of pictures at the Dayton Rendevous she is allowing me to post, so there is much to come.

Just to keep everyone informed, there are only 80 slots open for the 2008 HDP!!!!! pre registration has been brisk.

Now for a serious moment. Lets all pray for the quick recovery of Stan Durnals wife from Cancer surgery. Many of us know of this battle. Keep both of them in your thoughts.

*** Hey Dawn Patrollers!!! ***

The date for the 2008 HDP is going to be changed. We cannot use August 15,16,17., The IRCHA boys will be flying this weekend. I have applied for another date, and will let everyone know as soon as the AMA approves it.

HDP 2008 Date:

As I mentioned in a earlier e mail, our initial date was denied. The Nats will be starting a week later this year, so all activity is essentially moved back a week. This put the IRCHA event on the 3rd weekend and thus we had to move. The AMA is meeting now on the site useage and I should have the revised date soon. I'll shoot it out to every one and get it on the website as soon as I know.

Don't forget to post your new projects on the forum for all to see. Let's not go into hibernation, let's keep up the talk.

thanks

Latest from Steve...
-------------------

Hey Dawn Patrollers,

 HOT OFF THE WIRE:
The AMA has confirmed our date. The 2008 HDP will be August 22,23,& 24, 2008. Once again at the AMA National Flying site.

 THE BAD NEWS:
I'm sorry to say we are going to have to revert back to the basics. The HDP simply can't afford the rental fees the AMA is asking, so we will have to do with out some luxuries. We will NOT have the tents, PA system, Tables, bleechers, etc that we have used in the past. Nor will there be any electrical connection. All of these things are nice, but we normally don't have them at the other fly ins. We all have our Easy Ups, and battery powered fast chargers. So, it will be a little more basic, but we can still have fun and have a good fly in.

Thanks
steve

From Steve...
-------------

I apologize for the confusion. I sent 2 notices out last week and I will send another out later today.

The official, confirmed date for the 2008 Hoosier Dawn Patrol Is AUGUST 22,23,24, 2008.

We had to move back a week, because the NATS are starting a week later this year.

Latest update from Steve:
-------------------------

Hey HDP'rs

We are fast approaching August and the 5th running of the HDP. So it's time to get serious. In the next few days I will be posting a registration form on the HDP website - (it is also attached to this posting). Please print it off and mail it back to me. Sorry, I haven't had a chance to develop an on line version. Since this year I am facing more expenses than before, including your $20 registration fee would be appreciated, but not necessary. If you are one of the 52 pre registrants you can pay day of the event and I will honor the $20. If you send pre-payment and don't attend, I will refund your money.

Sponsor requests will also go out this weekend. As usual vendors are welcome to set up. Just let me know.

Now for the explanantion I feel I need to give.

Most of you don't know that I had to enroll my daughter in a long term drug rehab program. It started June 19, 2007. This program involves the parents participation. I attend 8 hours of classes/therapy a week, plus do what the program calls "host". I have 4-5 kids stay at my house in the evening and on the weekends. This has been going on for almost a year now. Since they are addicts, obviously security and safety are paramount. I cannot leave them alone or unattended. Thus, any spare time I might have is taken up. This has had a drastic influence on any model ativity. My shop is in a detached garage. I can't leave the kids to go out there, so no building has taken place this past year. It has also affected the HDP website. I cannot operate a computer while I have kids in the house. This also means I am unable to travel to any events until she graduates from the program. And I have done no flying so far this year. Not complaining, just expalining, the end result is worth it.

Now, hopefully the good news. Kirsten has made incredible changes and is scheduled to graduate from the program on August 9. Just in time so I will be able to make my own event, just with last years airplanes. And I will be able to get on updating the website and keeping it up to date.

So guys, thanks for understanding. I'm looking forward to getting back to normal and building with a vengence and seeing all of you.

Latest from Sir Percy (Steve Percifield):
--------------------------------------

Hey Guys,

I have the registration form on the website. It's in the center of the Information page.  It would be a great help if you could download the form (it's in pdf), fill it out, and mail it back to me as soon as you can.

It helps me get the paperwork ready for the event. I would appreciate the entry fee, but as I said, if you preregistered, I will honor the $20 fee the day of the event.

Thanks to everyone who has already returned the form. I look forward to seeing everyone in August.

Thanks!

Latest from Steve...

Hey HDP'rs,

It's almost time. I have nervously been watching the weather forcasts and so far the long term forcast has no rain in it. It's supposed to be hot and humid like August is supposed to be. Keep your fingers crossed.

FYI. The food vendor I normally have will not be with us this year. And do to my schedule, I was unable to get another. So, as it stands right now, we will not have food. But, the Bartholomew County RC Club will be there selling drinks and snacks through out the event. They are a brand new club in the Columbus area. Have just built a new field and are doing this as a club fund raiser. So help them out and buy a soda or two over the weekend.

Also, we will not have a Saturday evening "banquet" this year. But, we can still all set around and eat out lunch meat sandwiches together. Hopefully I can return this tradition next year.

I would like to have some night flying this year. If you have an electric with lights or a powerful flashlight, bring it and lets do some flying after dark. Must be electric, with lighting of your choice. This doesn't have to be scale, just some slow flying foamy or Slow Stick.

There will be an overnight storage tent and we have electricty on our side of the road this year, so charging should be easier.

I'm looking forward to seeing every one, drive safely

Went to the Hoosier Dawn Patrol today.

It was very hot, hottest day of the year according to the weatherman, but there were still plenty of LARGE WWI aircraft there on display and flying.

I took (3) electrics - my Electrifly Fokker D-VII and SE5a as well as my little Roadkill Sopwith Camel (all 3 oz of it!).

As luck would have it, the grass was matted down enough that the electrics did quite well on it, despite the crosswind.  I even flew the Roadkill Camel, until the sky filled up with 1/4 and 1/3 scale monsters!  Smiley

Check out the photos I took in the following gallery:

Nice photos!  Missed saturday as I was at Mt. Comfort Air Show.  I went up on Sunday, but everyone had already packed up and I missed everything, so I'm glad you took some pictures.
