3D flight using Gyro?

With the latest craze using monster sized motors and ginormous props on aircraft, I've been seeing a lot 3D high Alpha flight.
Some folks are using Gyros to help with hovering.
What kind of radio does it take, and how would you set it up to use the Gyro in the aircraft?
