Radio controlled model airplanes are built to scale and are judged on detail and precision. Planes are split up in to divisions that include Best Civilian, Best Military, Fun Scale Sportsman, Fun Scale Aerobatics, and more. See the highflying action at Rough River Dam airport.

Here are directions to the Rough River State Park airport from Indianapolis:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=indianapolis,+IN&daddr=Rough+River+state+park,+KY+40119&sll=38.58843,-86.094265&sspn=2.687834,4.257202&ie=UTF8&ll=38.681222,-86.121826&spn=2.684299,4.257202&z=8&om=1

According to Google maps, it's about 186 miles if you go through Corydon, IN and down through the country.  You can also go down through Louisville and Elizabethtown.  It's a bit further, but time is about the same since more of it is interstate.

Saturday is the best day to spectate.  They start flying about 9am in the morning and continue 'til about 4pm normally.  Around noon, they set all the aircraft out on the runway for spectators to take photos.

A group from Columbus is planning to go down the MJ Sunday. We have a couple of seats available if anyone is interested in joining us (and chip in a bit for fuel $$).  At this point we're planning on leaving Columbus around 6:00 AM Sunday, and will stop for breakfast on the way. If interested, contact Mike at 812-350-7793.

I've attached the results of the 2007 Mint Julep Scale Meet.

In summary, there were only three flyers from the Southside club, all in Fun Scale Expert.

Gary Wild placed 9th with his .60 sized Chipmunk.
Chuck Baker placed 10th with a .60 sized Top Flite F4U Corsair.
Al Tucker placed 13th with his .60 sized P-47 Thunderbolt.

There were several that came down to support us:
Virginia Wild (Gary's wife).
Herman & Angie Cholewinski.
John & Kathy Dunn.
Dave & Mary Heisler.

There were other flyers there from the Indy area:

Art Shelton placed 4th in Expert Div 2 with his big Fokker Eindecker.
Billy Thompson took 1st place in the Sport Scale category with his 1/3 scale Sopwith Pup.

It was EXCELLENT weather this year - for a change - and a good time was had by all...   Smiley
