Title: Cheap Wing Bags...... Post by: lownslo on March 03, 2007, 10:50:56 AM Hello All,
For those of you have any reasons to protect wings etc..... this could be a budget minded idea. Depending on the material you select, protection will be varied. I have been buying the material shown at Wal Mart. It comes in two widths, (40" and 54" @ about $2.75 and $3.97 a yard respectivly... I think) I have been making some cheap wing bags, and in photos below, a fuselage bag for my sailplane. I have a rack in my truck for 2 planes. My truck is a short bed with a toneau cover. (not much room). In an attempt at humor, I have been accused of "bringing too much "stuff" and planes to the field. ::) ;D Sometimes I will set a plane or wing in the cab passinger side .....OR thread it in between fuse, wing racks, and field equipment it the bed. These bags will NOT give protection like the manufactured bags do.... but offer some protection for a LOT less money. My wife does not like to sew. If your wife does.....maybe you could talk her into helping you make these. I sewed them myself on one plane's wing...... but have found another way since then. I used a hot-melt glue gun to do the seams and attach the velcro tabs. I sew or glue the hem....then turn it inside out.....just like a sock, and leave a "flap" on the open end to close up the end. This works good with certain wings, (glider....no linkage to hang up). I have a sketch attached for a lengthwise wing bag. The one photo shows my "Bird of Time style" wing in it's new bag. ........... lownslo...... Title: Re: Cheap Wing Bags...... Post by: lownslo on March 03, 2007, 10:52:26 AM Last 2 photos.... lownslo
