Title: Kit is inexpensive.... it's the other "stuff"!
Post by: lownslo on November 23, 2006, 09:40:12 AM
While surfing the net one day I ran across a Herr kit on Sig's site. I am a sucker for high-wing planes and this little jewel caught my eye.  It is a Cloud Ranger, 42" span, typical trainer look.  The price really grabbed me. It was $36.99 + shipping.  This is a total laser cut kit. Tower NOW sells this for the same price.  I'm just guessing here..... I assume Hobby RC could offer it the same as Tower. This is probably one of the best kits for quality of parts I have built. For a first time builder there may be some "implied", but not specific enough directions in the book.  By following the sheet plans, most all could figure it out. It is a typical build ..........but I did made some changes to the design... Putting on 1/2A aluminum LG instead of the wire gear.  I did drill lightning holes and cut a notch out for batter box cover clearance. I also moved the access hatch for the controller to the bottom instead of the top, in front of windshield.  I did have to make a battery compartment cover...... (Their "electric" version on the plans did not have a cover".....just velcro strap to hold in a battery).  I put on the optional ailerons, (supplied), and am using HS-81 servos and a Hitec 555 receiver. The AXI 2808/20 motor spins a 9-6 Slim Cam prop, powered by the same 2 cell 2150 lipos I use in my big glider.
NO guaranty on this power set up......although my Moto Calc says it is a good combo.  The "Test CG" found the plane a little tail heavy BEFORE covering. OH what a shock!! ::) ;D.  I decided to get a spinner/prop nut,(6mm), and and now I have a slight nose heavy condition.  I feel when the covering is put on the tail end .....it will be pretty good. The motor was also set up on 1 inch nylon standoffs and the AXI radial mount.  When this little jewel is finished I will post some photos.  I am making some custom decals for this plane too.  .... more to come..... lownslo
PS. Herr also has a FLOAT KIT for this plane @ $16.99

I had 3 more photos to add so I used the repy area.
Did you notice my weights on the wing build???    ::) ;D.  And yes, I also have some sandbags!! :)  ..... lownslo
