Bob/Doug,
Missed you guys at trainer night this past Thursday! I hope you were having loads of fun up at EAA Airventure (Oshkosh, WI).
I arrived at the field a little after 6pm and had to open the gate. A rain shower had just come through, which thankfully made things much cooler than I had anticipated. Had the field to myself for about 1/2 an hour and flew my old Kadet.
John and Herb showed up with a couple of planes that needed the engines dialed in.
John had a new Nexstar trainer that hadn't yet flown so I gave it a once over before we attempted flight. It flew fine, but it was down on power a bit since the needle restrictor wouldn't allow us to lean the engine out properly. John removed the restrictor after the 2nd flight, but we ran out of daylight before we could final tweak it.
Herb had his kit-built PT-40, that had flown previously with a sleeve-bearinged engine. Herb had replaced the engine with a ball-bearinged .46 that needed adjusted. After getting it adjusted, we test flew it and it did fine - plenty of power. He still needs to adjust the landing gear to compensate for the nose down stance, which should help smooth out the takeoff.
Brad and Colin McCall also showed up with their Hangar 9 Mustang. It also needed the engine adjusted, but they couldn't get to the low needle since the engine was cowled in. After making an access hole, they were able to adjust it just fine. Brad asked me to walk out with Colin, in case he needed any assistance flying it for the first time - but he did just fine!

I'm kinda glad there weren't more students, since I was the only instructor that showed up.

Chuck
