Indy RC South has a summer instruction program for new flyers that will begin operation on Tuesday evening April 18th, 2006.
Instruction will be available, when weather permits, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the summer.
You must be a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) to fly at our field, but membership in our club is not required to obtain flight instruction. If you have your AMA membership, and are new to our hobby/sport or rusty in your flight skills after an absence, you are encouraged to come to our field on these training nights and take advantage of the opportunity for one-on-one instruction/help.
Just show up with your aircraft on a Tuesday or Thursday evening, make your needs known to the instructors on hand, and we will be happy to help you learn the basic skills involved in RC flying.
We provide free flight instruction with the aid of a buddy-box which is a big help in learning to fly radio-controlled aircraft. One of our instructors can initially take off and land for you, and help trim your plane for proper flight. He can then give you control of the plane at will, and give you pointers as you learn to fly it yourself. Throughout a session, the instructor can still retake control if you get into trouble in the air.
While we can’t promise your instructor can prevent every crash, you will have a much better chance of keeping your plane in one piece with an instructor backing you up than without this advantage.
If you have not flown RC before we encourage you to visit our website at
http://www.indyrcsouth.org/index.php. In the Links section (upper-left corner) you will find a link under "New to RC" called "Flight Instruction". From this page you can download several publications including our
Flight Training Guide,
Flight Instruction Q&A, and
Important things Beginners Must Know.
The information contained in these publications will help you prepare for RC flying at our facility or anywhere.
