I would like to find out what the interest would be in having a Float Fly. I have gone to two of them prior to moving from California and they were great fun. A friend let me fly one of his float planes and it was a great experience.

We would of course need a large lake or reservoir. They camped out the whole weekend (Friday through Sunday) at a lake (Lake San Antonio). Flying was thoughout the day and we had a grand dinner Saturday evening. A few brought planes with lights and flew at night. That was pretty amazing to see too. The only other thing needed would be someone with an inflatable to help retrieve planes if the engine stops or has some other problem.

Thanks.

I'm all in. I don't have a float plane, but would love to outfit my Kadet LT-40 with floats(If I can ever figure out how). I think we have a pond or something across the street from the field don't we?

Well, that's a start. If we can get enough interested, we can make this happen.

Any ideas on the location?

Roy Wilson at Greenfield has been hosting a float flly in the fall. He has a nice little lake and a field adjacent for "wheelies".

Maybe he would allow us to hold an event at his farm?

Altuk, if you are able to contact Roy would you mind seeing about it for us?  That sounds pretty good to me.

Hello All,  Lownslo is now a member of RC South again. I started flying here in 2000.  I have been, and still am, a member of Indpls RC Modelers, the eastside club.  We are having 3, (yes 3), float fly-ins at Roy Wilson's place this year.  I recently gave up the newsletter job so I am not "in tune" to all the planning now. I do know, the 3 months involved will be  June, Aug, and October. (don't quote me...but I think it will be the first Sat. OR Sun. of these three months).
Chuck Baker, Gary Wild, and Al Tucker visited last year.
One of our members had a "mishap" with a golf cart last year on the "wheels field". Fortunately ALL were OK except for his plane.  We are going to draw up some safety rules and some regulations for this year.  Previously, it was a few guys on the lake. This event has "taken off" Roll Eyes , (yes--pun intended), and has grown to a point where some sense of order needs to be implemented.
Roy is the nicest guy you would want to meet, but I can't speak for him as far as the open invitation.   I ask him last year for Chuck and the gang, and he said "of course!!!"  I will speak to Roy ..... and the club.... and see what is shakin'.
Below: Al Tucker's LT 40 is landing, and Jack Sallade's Telemaster 40 is getting airborne in 2005.

Okay. It sounds like Roy Wilson is already involved and booked up. I'm not sure if he would be interested in hosting another. I am looking at some other locations that might be suitable which would allow overnight camping. More later.

Yes..............  Hosting a "full fly in" would probably not work...........  but I will still check to see about an invitation for some visitors from RC South that want to try floats.  We will see.  I will let Chuck Baker know what is going on when the time comes. ....... lownslo
Bob
PS. Anyone interested can check with Chuck and have him explain the surroundings.  There are some woods and trees around .... so finals are limited, "somewhat".  Those of you in RC South have good experience in hitting your low-cut runways so you guys should do OK.

I spoke with Roy Wilson at the hobby shop the other day.

He confirmed that he will be hosting three Float Flys on the first Sunday of June, August and October starting at 1pm.

The actual dates will be:
- June 4th
- August 6th
- October 1st

Directions to Roy's farm:
1.  I-70 to Greenfield, IN exit (SR#9)
2.  South on SR#9 to downtown Greenfield at intersection of SR#9 & US#40 (Hancock County Courthouse).  OR  Washington St.(US 40) out to Greenfield, where it crosses Hwy 9 at the Courthouse.
3.  East on US#40 (from SR#9) 4 miles to 600 East -- a large rural intersection with turn lanes but no light.
4.  South from US#40 on 600 East for 1 mile to 100 South -- there's an electric substation in the SW corner of 600 East & 100 South.
5.  East on 100 South 1 3/4 miles to 775 East "T" road that stops at 100 South.  At the 775 East "T" there will be an older farm house & a new brick home.  Take the westernmost blacktop driveway ( it would be 775 East if 775 East continued south) between the 2 barns and continue to the pond...the pond & gazebo are visible after you go between the barns.

See attached image for layout of farm/lake/runway.

I just spoke to Roy on the phone and mentioned fellas in the RC South Club wanted to come.  He verified with a big yes. .....  All are welcome.   There may be a frequency board or other rules this year because it is starting to grow in numbers.  I am sure it will be nothing elaborate.  As always.........safety is the main factor.  ..... lownslo...
