Well, I'm here!

As some of you know, I mostly wind my own outrunners for my planes. My favorite vendors are:

http://www.komodohobby.com/
http://www.strongrcmotors.com

Here's a great thrust calculator, based on real bench test results for GWS and APC electric props: http://www.gobrushless.com/testing/thrust_calculator.php

Gene,
Some of the sites that you posted are interesting. I have never been much into electrics. It seems to me like all of the electric planes out there are puny. with little motors. As a side note i do realize that my knowledge of planes in general is limited at best. I am new to this hobby (air) but have spent a number of years messing around with cars, trucks and a few boats. All of which were nitro. Do you make all of your own motors for your planes? The sites were very helpful.

Hey Bill:

Welcome to the air! I'm new as well. Having spent ~ 20 years with electric off-road buggies and trucks ( www.rcworld.com ) I gave up on competition... wasn't fun any more. I fell in love with electric flight.

I haven't owned a glow engine since I was about 10 years old Smiley I don't need to. There's plenty of choices, both ready to run and in kit form for the power package. I have a couple of 60"ws planes that fly fine on 300w or so, but I don't enjoy the big stuff. I like the small stuff in the 5-20oz size. They transport well and are in the peak of the economy/performance range.

I design most of my own planes, though I have several arf's and kits built. I'm a confirmed cheapskate and foam lover.

What type of flying do you like? Perhaps I could change your opinion about electrics? I hang out at rcgroups foamies forum whenever I'm in the shop...
