Received the following from Jim Nance (nance_jim@yahoo.com):
-------------------------------------------------------------

Gentlemen,

Today I finalized securing our fly-in dates with RoundTripper Sports Academy in Westfield.  We are going to get started a little earlier this year...October 15th is the first scheduled fly-in.  I was able to secure 20 Saturday night fly-in dates.  As you can see, the fly-ins begin at 10:00 pm in December.  RoundTripper will do everything possible to get us in earlier, if possible.  My hands were tied regarding start times.  After all, baseball is RoundTripper's core business and they must cater to their baseball customers first.

I was successful in negotiating a reduced rental rate with RoundTripper.  Therefore, this year's pilot fee is only $10.00 at-the-door!  I will not be offering a season pass this year due to the reduced pilot fee.  Even though both the rental rate and pilot fee is reduced, we still need pilots showing up at these fly-ins.  Ideally, we need to average 20 pilots per fly-in.  I trust the reduction in the pilot fee will result in more pilots showing up to fly.  I would highly appreciate everyone doing what they can to promote the fly-ins.  Below is the fly-in schedule.  Also, attached is a flyer with the schedule.  I also created a thread regarding our indoor season over at RC Groups: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1507071.

I look forward to seeing you this indoor season.  Thanks.

Jim

I've received a couple of emails regarding whether or not we are flying tomorrow night (11/26).  As the schedule indicates, there is no fly-in tomorrow night.  If the date or time of a fly-in changes, you will be notified.  Please follow the schedule unless otherwise notified.  Thanks and I will see you on December 3.

Received the following from Jim Nance:
-------------------------------------

Saturday night's indoor fly-in at RoundTripper Sports Academy (RSA) begins at 9:00 pm.  According to the schedule, all remaining fly-ins tentativily begin at 10:00 pm.  This is due to RSA facility being booked for Saturday afternoons/evenings by several area baseball teams beginning in December and continuing through the winter.

However, as in the case of this Saturday night (12/3), we sometimes may be able to begin earlier.  Though we now are beginning our fly-ins later in the evening, I hope we can still maintain the number of pilots at 20+.  So, I encourage you to maintain your support and attend as many fly-ins as possible.  Please remember that we can still fly as late as we like.

Thanks and I'll see you on Saturday night.

Received the following update on flying site rules from Jim Nance:
--------------------------------------------------------------

Gentlemen,

I’ve decided to implement some changes into our future indoor fly-ins at RoundTripper Sports Academy.  These changes are primarily due to the increased number of pilots participating in the fly-ins (We have averaged 29 pilots per fly-in over the past five fly-ins.  Last season we averaged 18 pilots per fly-in over the entire season), the increased number of mid-air incidents and for the overall safety environment of the fly-ins.  I have also taken into consideration numerous comments made to me concerning these variables, as well.  Therefore, the following rules shall be implemented for the remaining fly-ins.

1.  3D maneuvers shall not be allowed to be performed on all helicopters larger than micro helicopters (i.e., Blade MCPX size).
This means no funnels/hurricanes, flips, piro flips, loops, rolls, tic tocs, inverted hovering, inverted forward flight or any other 3D maneuver not mentioned.  All helicopter flights shall be performed only in the upright attitude/orientation.  I realize a few of you helicopter pilots will disagree with this change; however, this rule is in the best interest for the safety of all pilots and spectators.  Violation of this rule will result in verbal warning for the first infraction.  A second infraction will result in being asked to leave the fly-in for which the infraction occurred.  A third infraction will result in being banned from all remaining fly-ins.

2.  Airplanes and helicopters will alternate flying in 15 minute intervals (i.e., airplanes fly for 15 minutes, helicopters fly for 15 minutes, airplanes fly for 15 minutes, helicopters fly for 15 minutes…and so on.)
All pilots need to be aware of how much time remains in the current flying interval.  For example, if there is only a couple of minutes remaining in the current flying interval and you begin your flight, please land before the end of the flying interval.  Extending flights past the current flying interval and into the next flying interval will not be tolerated.  Pilots need to be prompt and considerable.  We all have watches and/or cell phones; therefore, there is no excuse for not knowing the current time.
This change should give the helicopter pilots a little more room in which to fly and of course prevent incidents between airplanes and helicopters, which will almost always result in a destroyed airplane, no matter what type of airplane, and possibly the helicopter.  The majority of mid-air incidents have involved 3D airplanes versus other 3D airplanes or 3D airplanes versus micro airplanes.  Most of the 3D airplanes are constructed of EPP; therefore, most damage resulting from an incident can be repaired within a few minutes.  Of course, micro airplanes such as the ParkZone Vapor, E-flite Ultra Micro 4-Site, E-flite Ultra Micro are not as durable as the EPP 3D airplanes and are much smaller in size and a couple of incidents have resulted in the total loss of the micro airplane.  I considered having a 15 minute timeslot for the micro airplanes and a 15 minute timeslot for 3D airplanes and other larger airplanes; however, I decided not to do so because the wait time would be extended to 30 minutes for most pilots because the majority of the pilots are either flying 3D airplanes only, helicopters only or are flying both 3D airplanes and helicopters.  The bottom line is that you guys flying 3D airplanes and micro airplanes are going to have to live with flying with each other and work it out.  You 3D airplane pilots, including myself, please exercise a little more caution when flying with the micro airplanes and you micro airplane pilots need to exercise caution, as well and accept the risk of losing your entire micro airplane each and every flight.  Mid-air incidents are an inherent risk of indoor flying.  If you don’t want to lose it, then don’t fly it...and that goes for all pilots, including those who fly 3D airplanes and helicopters.

3.  Cigarette smoking and chewing/smokeless tobacco use is prohibited in the flying facility.  Violations of this rule will be result in the same punishment as in Section 1 above.

4.  Alcohol and/or illicit drug use is prohibited everywhere on the RoundTripper property, including the parking lot.  This is zero tolerance.  Whether you've had one sip of a drink or many drinks, if alcohol is smelled on your breath or you are suspected of being under the influence of an illicit drug, you will be asked to leave the property for the evening.  If you refuse to leave, I will be more than happy to ask the Westfield police to remove you from the property.  A second infraction of this rule will result in being banned from the remaining fly-ins.

I am interested in hearing your thoughts, comments and questions regarding these changes; however, I will not carry on a conversation via email or on my cell phone.  I simply don’t have the time.  Though, I will be more than happy to discuss these changes in-person at Saturday night’s fly-in.  Thanks for your cooperation and I trust the remaining fly-ins will be fun for all.

Latest from Jim Nance - PLEASE reply to nance_jim@yahoo.com
-------------------------------------------------------------

Gentlemen,

We have four indoor fly-ins remaining this season.  Last Saturday, we had a very low turnout...most likely due to the 10:00 pm start.  However, after reviewing our attendance thus far this season, the fly-ins that began at 9:00 pm had a lower turnout, as well, when compared to the 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm starts...though not as low as last Saturday.  I do know the last four fly-ins will start at either 9:00 pm or 10:00 pm.  So, each week, over the next four weeks, I will send out an email notifying of the fly-in start time and asking for firm commitments from those who plan on attending that Saturday's fly-in.  If you plan on attending that Saturday's fly-in, please reply to that email by Friday evening (the day before the fly-in).  Please do not reply to the email if you do not plan on attending the fly-in.  If we receive sufficient commitments, the fly-in will take place that Saturday.  If we do not receive sufficient commitments, the fly-in will be cancelled.  I will send an email out on Friday evenings indicating whether or not the fly-in will take place that Saturday.

This Saturday night's fly-in begins at 9:00 pm.  So, as detailed above, please reply by this Friday evening if you commit to attending.  Please remember, we need firm commitments.  Thanks for your cooperation.
