Title: Re: 2008 Electric Pylon Racing Schedule Post by: Gene Bond on April 29, 2008, 11:19:49 AM The first race of 2008 went fairly well. As in the past, there was a little more wind than we would have liked, but not as bad as some of the events have been.
4 of us made the race. It seems a few guys had not had time to get ready. Hopefully they will be out for the next session. Duane showed us that his 'modified' kit had significant speed capabilities. Apparently the single aileron, large spinner, filling the mold gaps, and reduced canopy make a difference. Therefore, an asterisk is appropriate. Luckily in the first race, he cut multiple corners, so was DQ'd. He didn't get caught in the other races. Bob tried 2 different planes, after having some problems with #1. Brian got hammered (by me) in the last race, cutting his elevator, which resulted in some fixable damage. I swear he hit the brakes, just as I was passing him! Actually, I thought I was inside him, when I pulled up for the corner. Apparently I wasn't. We had fun, and hope to continue having fun. Thanks to the guys who helped out! Got any suggestions on how to pin it down? I wish Brian had been running the iMh pack, so we could see the relative speed with more than just mine. Are you going to make the next one? Pat? Title: Re: 2008 Electric Pylon Racing Schedule Post by: Pat on April 30, 2008, 01:00:50 PM I'd planned on making this one, but forgot about an obligation I had... I should be able to make the next. Sounds like I'll definitely be chasing everyone else ;)
Title: Re: 2008 Electric Pylon Racing Schedule Post by: wrightds on May 02, 2008, 08:27:05 AM I don't mind an asterisk, although I would hate to give up the prize money. :) Stock vs modified class, interesting idea. Although where was this thought previously, when most were running stock prop nut resulting in the nose being about a 4 inch air dam, and one had "cleaned up" airflow over the nose with a 3 inch spinner? Most planes have some type of "mod", be it sanded dimples, filled in mold marks, filled in hinge lines, spinners, etc. My experience seems to show the most important keys to good performance rest with the batteries and the ESC. Once I deep cycled the batteries, and switched from orginal Chinese ESC to Castle, good motor performance followed. Which brings me to the question, who would run in modified class? Only those whose "improvements" are preceived to actually work for better performance? ;D
Title: Re: 2008 Electric Pylon Racing Schedule Post by: Gene Bond on May 05, 2008, 04:31:33 AM Heck, I don't know... Maybe we need an 'open/unlimited' class?
I'm up for anything :D Title: Re: 2008 Electric Pylon Racing Schedule Post by: Pat on May 05, 2008, 07:21:34 AM or maybe a tech inspection like in nascar (That template thing would be a killer ;) )
Title: Re: 2008 Electric Pylon Racing Schedule Post by: Chuck Baker on June 16, 2008, 10:09:47 PM Note that the 6/22 race will be held at 4pm, after the 2pm Fun Fly and before the 5pm picnic.
Title: Rescheduled Race from July 27th to August 3rd Post by: Gene Bond on July 22, 2008, 10:02:50 PM I am going to reschedule the July 27nd race to August 3rd. I didn't realize the Brickyard 400 was early this year, when we scheduled it.
Hmmm... Baker has 666 posts... Coincidence? edit Note: Changed title, Merged duplicate post, Changed Schedule and Calendar to reflect new date Title: Re: 2008 Electric Pylon Racing Schedule Post by: Chuck Baker on July 23, 2008, 01:00:42 AM Don't you mean the 7/27 race???
Oh, and I have 667 posts now. :) Chuck Title: Re: 2008 Electric Pylon Racing Schedule Post by: Gene Bond on July 23, 2008, 06:30:50 AM Yep
Title: Re: 2008 Electric Pylon Racing Schedule Post by: Gene Bond on August 05, 2008, 08:12:14 AM Any ideas on how to increase participation?
'Open' rule w/ pitch speed limit? Open it up to non-club members? Just let it be, and enjoy the few of having a ball? |
